In Memory

Morris Startzel

Morris G."Mort" Startzel passed away on November 25, 2008 of a heart attack. He was not married and did not have any children. Survived by his parents and sister and several neices and nephews. My thoughts on my friend:

I know not many may remember Mort; he entered PV at semester our junior year. But along with Roger Givens, Ginny Spencer, Greg Knox and me, we went off to NAU together. Mort was in Smith Minerak's government class with me and that began a friendship that lasted for the past 42 years. He was my best friend and was the person that introduced me to the Lovely Carla, my wife of the past 31 years. We were invested in each other's life for the long term. Even after moving to Kansas City in 1979, we touched base on a regular basis, at least once a month. My kids called him Uncle Momo. Mort had big shoulders and was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone that needed it. An avid golfer, he played to a single digit handicap. Mort was a fun and terrific person to be around. Normally, we would hang out, play golf and laugh a lot. He lifted the spirits of everyone around him. He left behing a long group of friends in Tucson, Phoenix and Flagstaff. He is already missed by all of them and it is going to be strange visiting Arizona and not seeing him. He was always one of my first phone calls.

God bless you, my friend.
