After high school, Ted spent a couple of years enrolled at the UofA. After holding a "winning" number in THE lottery, Ted joined the Navy Reserves. He spent his tour-of-duty with the SeaBees learning his trade as an Iron Worker. After his tour, he returned to live in Tucson.

The week before Halloween in 1981, Ted was working as a foreman on a construction site (Kino Hospital?). He was helping erect a crane when a cable on the crane snapped striking Ted and a fellow Iron Worker. Ted fell over 100' and died instantly; his fellow worker passed in the ER. Instead of attending the Phillips brother's annual Halloween Haunted House extravaganza, family and friends found themselves attending the funeral.

1967 and I was new at PVCC. Didn't know a single person.
Everyone seem to have their "clicks" It was Ted who ran
into me at the grocery store and asked me if I wanted to
go to the football game that night. I will never forget!
Thanks Ted.

I first met Ted when we were classmates in the 7th grade at Townsend Jr. High. He sat directly to my left in Home Room and History. My clearest memory of him, which is also apparent in his senior picture, is those piercing blue eyes that always looked a little mischievous, and that wide open smile that always felt like instant friendship. Ted had the kind of expression that made you think you could almost see the wheels turning in his prankster brain. I called him Teddy Bear, which was a perfect nickname...lovable and a little bit wild.

Thanks, Bob Pierson, for your thoughtful memorial to Ted. I'm saddened, but grateful, to know how we lost him. And Larry Espinola's remembrance is so typical of Ted. Just a super nice guy.

I suspect that Ted was beloved by his crew of iron workers. And how I wish I could have gone to one of his Haunted Houses at Halloween. Sure would have loved to see him again at our 40th, too. Miss you, Teddy Bear! A.

Ted was my catcher in little league. He was a good player and our team went on to win the league in the summer of 1962. I threw a couple of one hitters and ted caught them both.
