School Story:
The Funeral Procession of '68.
Mike Fisher drove a 1953 Caddy Hearse and tried to get him to do a funeral procession around the school before our afternoon classes started and he always said ‘NO’. He didn’t like to attract attention. I finally convinced him that probably just a few would join in. LOL. When we started out in front of the school I was the 2nd car back in my little ’63 Corvair, of little importance except for my get away. We continued on and all of a sudden everybody was jumping in their cars and following us. We had looped around the school once and started back down the main street and the line of cars just never seemed to end. We even had a couple of buddies on their motorcycles lead the Hearse like cops would do. Then we had a cop pull up next to us and asked us if we needed any help. We just said ‘no, we’re fine”. By the time it had all finished, about half an hour of driving around the blocks several times, we had traffic backed up to the light at Wilmot. We pulled up in front of the school and here comes the Principle and Dean of Boys out, Uh, oh, I was blocked in!!! I jumped the curb and went around the others, up on the side walk between a no parking sign and the fence for student parking. Nobody got in trouble. The principle and Dean were laughing so hard they just told everybody to park and get to class. We were all already late. Now they never called me a Community Organizer in those days, I was a silent Ring Leader in a way. LOL
