I am sad to say, we lost another classmate last month. Richard Fabel passed away on the 13th of February after a long battle with several health issues. I have know Richard since 8th grade and have been good friends with him since we both got out of the Armed Services. I will miss him greatly.

If memory serves, it was during the 90s when Richard Fabel suffered a debilitating stroke. Of the many fine and inspiring things I've been privileged to witness humans do is Michael Cerepanya's care of Richard during the months it took for Richard to recover. From cutting up his food at meals to providing him a home to making sure of his therapy and medical progress, Michael's expressions of friendship and quiet devotion — all while loving Cheryl and raising a family and working on a growing business — are bittersweet recollections now that Richard has passed. Happy is it that Richard recovered to live these decades since and the memories I have of too much crazy to recount without Richard around to laugh and argue with me about it. Miss you Dude. Godspeed.

I will be glad to remember Richard and his stories; there were many. He always had a smile, no matter what he was going through, and was always there for others. We will miss him.

So long as I have my thoughts and memories, it does not matter if you are near.... or a million miles away, because to me, you are never further than a thought.... and then I smile.
