Kris, I am so very sorry for your loss.  Mark was a great man and an awesome classmate.  I remember him so well.  We had a number of classes together and he was always fun to be around.  His football career was quite notable.  The last time I visited with him was at a class reunion.  I know he loved you so very much and was very proud of your family.

May God's peace and love surround all of you.

Diane Lenhart (Schreck)

How sad to hear of Mark's passing and to learn he suffered from Alzeimers as well. Mark was my first crush in 5th grade and attended grade thru jr hi before I moved away. I always held a fondness for my friends and classmates in Tucson. My sincere condolences to his family, to brother Jim.

Kris-

Very sorry to hear of Mark's passing. One of the most talented and humble people I have known. I would like to think that in someway I helped contribute to his success on the football field because of how often he ran over me at football practise!

Our prayers for peace and comfort to you and the family.

mark was a quality guy and decent person who will be missed. i played football for about 6 weeks- not sport for a slow, skinny guy who needed glasses..cross country and track came the next year. in a drill, i was able to elude his tackle 2 or 3 times and coach howe called me twinkle toes...one of those silly things you remember forever. i was able to talk to mark one time when i was in st. louis but never saw him except at the reunions...my loss. may god touch his family.

Mark was a heartthrob, that's for sure.  And he didn't even know it.

I was able to visit with him at our last reunion and he was just as sweet, handsome, self-effacing and humble as he was in highschool.  I told him I had a crush on him and I think he even blushed!

He has the angels smiling, I bet.

Kris, Paula and I are so sorry for your loss. We really enjoyed our last visit and hope to see you again soon.

Classmates, I have had the opportunity to visit Mark and Kris a number of times over the past few years. My daughter moved to St. Louis a few years ago and the Arnesons live about 1/2 mile away. I can promise you all that Mark continued to have his wonderful humble and caring personality to the end. He was a blessing to me at Palo Verde and again over 50 years later despite the effects of CTE. We laughed together and prayed together on my visits - times that I will not forget and will treasure. I can only say Rest In Peace, my dear friend.

I also want to apologize for being so late to respond to this "In Memory" stream about Mark but I have been out of the country.

I did not know Mark well but back in the day I witnessed an event involving Mark that is graphically etched in my mind and hopefully worth sharing.

There was a gathering of several PV classmates one day in 1967 in the back yard of somebody’s house which had a swimming pool, although it was not a swimming party as we were all fully dressed. I was there hanging with my BF Jeff Lovin and his girlfriend at the time, Cathy Nelson.

At some point Cathy thought it would be good fun to get Jeff tossed into the pool with his clothes on and so she solicited Mark Arneson to do the heavy lifting. Mark grabbed Jeff from behind and started manhandling him toward the impending water bath. As they wrestled their way to the pool’s edge Mark gave Jeff a mighty shove expecting that that would do the trick. But Jeff’s hands had latched onto Mark’s arm or shirt and weren’t about to let go. For a moment they stood there at pool’s edge, these Titans of our class, the unstoppable force vs the immovable object, with Mark firmly planted at the edge and with Jeff, feet on pool’s edge but with his body leaning out over the water at a 20 degree angle, at arms length from Mark - a moment frozen in time. It was magnificent.

Suddenly Jeff somehow created a miraculous pull/spin move reversal and completely extricated himself from his predicament. With both combatants safely away from the pool’s edge these two Titans called it a draw and declared a truce.

As this took place many years ago and as my mind may have magnified the facts over the years I defer to anyone who was also there that day and remembers this event better than I.
